TABOR CITY, NC (WECT) - A Columbus County teacher has won the teacher of the year award after 57 years on the job.
Everlene Davis, who currently teaches Family and Consumer Sciences Education at South Columbus High School, has only taught in the Tabor City area of Columbus County.
She was named the Sandhills/South Central's Region Teacher of the Year Thursday, which consists of 12 counties.
This is the second time she's received the honor. Years ago she won it and then was told she lost the state teacher of the year award by just two points.
She had no idea she had won the regional award until an assembly Thursday morning.
Davis is in her 70s and has no plans of retiring anytime soon.
