WILMINGTON, NC (WECT)- Employees at the Carousel Center in Wilmington decided to do something different this Christmas.
Instead of buying for each other, they pooled their money to buy bikes for local children.
Amy Feath, CEO of the Carousel Center says it was an easy decision.
"We decided that we would not do our Secret Santa with each other and we would use the money that we generally spend and pool it," Feath said. "The Carousel Center matched it and we decided to buy a girl's bike and a boy's bike and helmets and locks for the kids for Weller's Wheels."
Feath said they raised enough money to purchase some of the more expensive bikes so the kids could wake up to something extra special Christmas morning.
The Carousel Center is a non-profit organization that helps abused children.
"My guess is the beneficiaries of the Weller's Wheels program are probably going to be some of the kids we might have seen at the Carousel Center so we really felt as a team that it would be a really nice gesture to forego our ten dollar gifts," Feath said.
The deadline to donate to WECT's Weller's Wheels and the Holiday Smiles Toy Drive is Saturday, December 14.
