CHARLOTTE, NC (WECT) - Family members of a teenager from Charlotte have filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against a gun company after their daughter was killed in Columbus County.
Jasmine Thar's family members are suing Remington Arms Company for $150,000,000. The lawsuit was filed Monday in Charlotte. The announcement comes nearly seven months after prosecutors cleared the gun owner of charges.
Back in 2011, Thar was killed while visiting family in Chadbourn right before Christmas.
At the time neighbor, James Blackwell, said he was cleaning his Remington 700 when it accidentally fired and shot Thar.
During the time of Thar's death, investigators explained, that some Remington rifles had been recalled after accidentally discharging.
