Dealer selling heroin labeled ‘Champ' takes one on the chin

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – An increase in heroin related drug overdoses in the past few days has led police to a specific brand of heroin.

Heroin labeled "Champ" was found to be the common factor in over a dozen drug overdoses in the past few days. Wilmington Police Officers and Brunswick County Sheriff's Deputies linked the drug to 32-year-old Kendrick Davis.

Davis was arrested around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday night. He was charged with trafficking heroin, PWISD heroin, and selling and delivering heroin within 1000 ft of a childcare facility. Officers seized 150 bindles of heroin from Davis, each bindle labeled "Champ."

No deaths have been associated to the drug overdoses. Police are sharing this information with the hope of preventing any drug related deaths.
