Bob Hewson indicted on first degree murder

A panel of citizens on the grand jury officially charged Bob Hewson with first degree murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied property. The indictment says, "The defendant Robert Hewson willfully and feloniously did discharge a .38 Caliber Revolver into Gail Tice's house."

It also charges Hewson with violating a protective order filed by Gail Tice. Hewson was arrested last month after police say he sneaked into Landfall Community in Wilmington. He then shot and killed his estranged wife Gail Tice.

In Hewson's first court appearance Judge Rebecca Blackmore denied bond. He was not inside the courtroom Monday when his indictment was returned. He's behind bars in the New Hanover County Jail.

Prosecutors haven't decided whether they'll seek the death penalty. They say having a panel of citizens on the grand jury hear the evidence should speed the case along.
