NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A scary situation has ended peacefully Friday afternoon, after a man who originally held his wife hostage surrendered to deputies.
Deputies with the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office were called Friday around lunchtime to respond to reports of a man barricading himself inside a home.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies arrived to the home on Gladiolus Drive around 11:30 a.m.
NHCSO spokesperson Sgt. Jerry Brewer said the incident began as a hostage situation.
Brewer said a man in his 70s was holding his wife hostage with a gun. According to officials, the wife was able to get away, but now the man is holed up in the house with a gun.
As of Friday afternoon the scene has been cleared, and the man who barricaded himself in the home, has been taken to the hospital for psychological evaluation.
