Brooks County confident heading into semis

QUITMAN, GA (WALB) -

The motto around the Brooks County Trojan locker room is "Bring the Hammer."

The Trojans have certainly done that so far in the state playoffs.

Brooks County has blown each of its three opponents this postseason, and finds themselves in the state semifinals for the first time since 2008.

This week will be a little different for Maurice Freeman's squad. For the first time since October, the Trojans will play a road game.

Freeman says home or away, it doesn't matter to his team.

They have confidence going into Friday's matchup with a good Lovett team.

"When you get to this level, everybody's good and we feel like we're pretty decent also," says Freeman. "We're excited about playing and we feel like we can win it."

The Trojans' season has been one filled with emotion.

Three players will killed in a preseason car crash, and the Trojans have dedicated their season to the "BC3."

Star quarterback Malkom Parrish is honoring one of those teammates all postseason long.

Parrish, who normally wears number 12, has played every playoff game wearing Shawn Waters' former number 32.

Parrish says he and Waters were longtime friends, and he hopes to honor his friend's memory with his play.

"I'm glad the coaches gave me the privilege to wear it during the playoffs for the rest of the season," the UGA commit says. "It means so much to me, so every game I'm going to play like he would."

After a season with so much emotion, the Trojans know what it mean to earn a spot in the state championship game.

"It would mean a lot. Not just to us, but to everybody in our community," says senior DL Tyvonte Maxwell. "This is a dream that everybody has been having for the past years now and it's finally coming true."

Brooks County takes on Lovett in Atlanta Friday night in the AA state semifinals.
