CFCC students asked to paint buildings downtown

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT)-CFCC students are showcasing their artwork in downtown Wilmington this week.

Students from the art program at the college are painting the walls of vacant businesses this weekend.

Officials from the Downtown Business Alliance asked the college to paint some of the vacated buildings.

The building formerly housing the Soapbox on Front Street is one of the buildings being used.

Victoria Paige, an art professor at CFCC, said this project benefits the city and the art students.

"When students are actually doing extra activities in a club, they're able to put that on their resume and have a possibility of getting a better job or at least showing what they can do," explained Paige.

Paige said the students are trying to get the murals done for the holiday parade on Saturday.
