WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The Wilmington International Airport will soon be part of the Pre✓™ program.
According to airport officials, the program is an expedited screening program that allows pre-approved airline travelers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt. Additionally, those travelers can keep their laptop in its case and compliant liquids/gels back in a carry-on.
"As TSA continues to move away from a one-size-fits-all approach to transportation security, we are looking for more opportunities to provide the most effective security in the most efficient way possible," TSA Administrator John S. Pistole said in a news release. "Expanding TSA Pre✓™ to more locations enables many more passengers across the country to experience expedited screening."
An indicator will be embedded in the barcode of the boarding pass for passengers eligible for expedited screening.
TSA will still continue to incorporate random and unpredictable security measures throughout the airport, and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening.
"At ILM, we take pride in being known for our convenience and customer service," said Jon Rosborough, Airport Director. "By offering Pre✓™, our passengers will be able to save more time, making the traveling experience even better. Enhancing the passenger's airport experience is always something we strive for and we are excited to offer this program at ILM."
Airport officials in Wilmington expect the program to begin within the next two weeks.
Passengers who are flying in December should be advised to check their boarding passes for the Pre✓™ indicator to see if they qualify for the expedited boarding process.
