WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The crew at Nourish NC is used to feeding students across the Cape Fear region, and a packing event Wednesday had everyone increasing their output from bags to much larger boxes.
A $12,000 donation from three different Rotary Clubs in Wilmington served as the catalyst for the non-profit's most recent venture. CEO Kim Karslake said the food will be shared with students at several schools in New Hanover County.
Representatives from the three civic groups presented Karslake with a check. Wally Simpson, president of Wilmington Central Rotary, said the group has worked with Nourish NC before and it was time to continue the teamwork.
"Overall it's just a great, great project and the things that we do are helping these children who have so, so little," Simpson said.
Nourish NC provides food to students across New Hanover County for when they're away from school, like weekends and long breaks. Karslake said they'll be packing more boxes before the holiday break in a few weeks.
Simpson said civic groups like Rotary are a good starting point for staying involved in outreach opportunities.
"It's just a great way to get out in the community and help other folks," he said.
