WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A man was arrested twice in one night after police say he was originally arrested and charged with trespassing and reckless driving, but now he may be facing several other charges.
According to Lt. Blanton with the Wilmington Police Department, 20-year-old Dustin Felton was arrested and charged around 9 p.m. Tuesday in connection to trespassing and reckless driving in the 1900 block of Manhattan Drive, which is in the Vista Village area.
Felton was held under a $2,500 secured bond and released sometime overnight.
Police received a call from an individual around 2:30 Wednesday morning who reported their car window had been smashed in the 700 block of S. Seventh Street. The person reported that the suspect then got in a car and sped away.
During the investigation, police were led to believe that Felton was responsible for the incident.
A few minutes later, police received another call about possible gun fire and a report of auto larceny in the 1500 block of S. 12th Street around 2:45 Wednesday morning.
When police responded to the incident, they found a black jeep. They believe Felton was the one who tried to steal the jeep, but ended up having the car impaled into something.
The suspects in this attempted theft then ran off and jumped a fence. While doing so, one of the suspects dropped paperwork that identified Felton, which was later determined to be a release order from jail.
Police received another call from an individual called around 2:50 Wednesday morning and said his Jeep had been stolen from S. 19th Street. It was later determined that this was the street where Felton lived and police believe it was Felton who called.
While police were investigating the call about the auto larceny at S. 12th Street, they got a call from Felton reporting his Jeep had been stolen.
According to police, Felton is now in intake and is being charged with three counts of injury to real property, reckless driving, hit and run, misdemeanor larceny, false report of a theft of motor vehicle, and larceny of motor vehicle.
