WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Non-profits all over the United States is celebrating Giving Tuesday, giving consumers a chance to spend money and time on those in need instead of shopping for holiday deals.
The Wilmington Branch of the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina was bustling with activity Tuesday. Volunteers packed trucks full of food to send off to food banks around the area.
For just a dollar donation, five meals can be served to those in need. Branch Director Jeff Rose says on Giving Tuesday, volunteers have focused on giving instead of getting.
"You know the old adage it's better to give then receive?" asks Rose, "I would guess people who participated in Black Friday and Cyber Monday got a few gifts for themselves. Now is their chance to give back to those truly in need."
The food bank's holiday meal drive is in accepting donations to meet their goal of $350,000. They say giving Tuesday is an opportunity to help them reach this goal.
