NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Teachers, parents, and education supporters held a "Red for Ed' protest Tuesday night at the New Hanover County Board of Education Meeting.
They say they are upset because of education budget cuts. They also say they do not feel supported by lawmakers or the New Hanover County Board of Education.
The Red for Ed protestors joined in a unity circle to send a message of unification to the school board.
They say they will not stop protesting until changes are made to education in New Hanover County.
One parent and educator says, teachers are not being treated professionally.
"The rest of us are out here tonight to show unity. We want to show that we support our teachers," said UNCW professor Dr. Janna Robertson, "I have kids in this school system and these teachers are fabulous. They are more than babysitters and they should be treated like it."
Dr. Robertson said, this protest is just the beginning. On Saturday 200 people will be marching in the Christmas parade in Wilmington, dressed in red for ed.
