COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The SBI was called in September to investigate whether or not a deputy with the Columbus County Sheriff's Office used excessive force during an arrest.

The investigation is complete and reveals Deputy Scott Collins did nothing wrong when he arrested Brandon Hamer.

Hamer's father said in September his 24-year-old son was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over outside of Chadbourn.

An incident report states that Hamer was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, carrying a concealed firearm, assault on an officer, and resist delay and obstruction.

Hamer's father said his son ran for no reason and believes Collins used excessive force during the incident.

According to Sheriff Chris Batten, the District Attorney's Office agrees with the results of the investigation.
