WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The City of Wilmington finalized the purchase of 6.63 acres along the northern downtown riverfront for a passive public park, as planned.
According to the city, the property was owned by Riverfront Holdings II and is part of a larger piece of the former almost Shipping Company property.
The land cost the City of Wilmington $3.86 million and will be paid for with a combination of funds from the city's saving account and money left over from finished capital projects.
According to the city, the placement of a public park along the riverfront is consistent with the Vision 2020 Downtown Plan.
