CASWELL BEACH, NC (WECT) - While many folks are out getting ready for the holidays with the family, dozens of law enforcement officials in our area want you to remember them.

Captain Sam Massey with the Caswell Beach Police Department is bringing back an old tradition this year, called "Project Blue Light."

For the past 22 years, law enforcement supporters have asked people to place a blue light in their windows during the holiday season.

The color blue is symbolic of peace.

The idea is to honor those officers who have fallen in the line of duty and support those officers who continue to work throughout the holiday season.

"Every day, officers are out on the streets putting their life on the line for strangers," said Massey. "It's comforting to know that when you ride by a house at 3 a.m., just the simple gesture of having a blue light in the window  feels good that those people are thinking of us and reciprocating the gesture."

The Caswell Beach Police Department will give blue lights to those who request them, or you can find them at local stores.
