Senate Democrats' decision to use the so-called nuclear option, George Zimmerman's latest arrest and the 50th anniversary of JFK's assassination caught our eye this week.

(RNN) - Senate Democrats voted to invoke the so-called nuclear option on Thursday.

It's a rules change that allows the Senate to break a filibuster with only 51 votes instead of 60. It only applies to votes on the president's executive and judicial nominees.

President Barack Obama applauded Senate Democrats for the move.

George Zimmerman was arrested on Monday after his girlfriend accused of him pointing a gun in her face and kicking her out of her Florida home during an argument. Zimmerman posted his $9,000 bond on Tuesday after being charged with felony assault.

Friday marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Authorities said Lee Harvey Oswald shot the president with a sniper rifle from a book depository while the president's motorcade drove through Dallas.
