Don't miss: WALB Crime Stoppers Street Sweep

WALB News 10 will team up with CRIME STOPPERS and area law enforcement agencies Thursday to get most wanted fugitives off our streets.

But viewers will play the biggest part in this crime fighting effort.

During First News At 5:00 and WALB News Ten at 6:00, our first CRIME STOPPERS STREET SWEEP will be headquartered right here in our newsroom. It's your chance to get the 25 most wanted fugitives off the streets.

The goal of the WALB CrimeSTOPPERS Street Sweep is to get some of South Georgia's Most Wanted criminals off the streets.

"I'm very excited," said Dougherty County Sheriff Kevin Sproul. "I appreciate WALB coming forward and assisting CRIME STOPPERS and the local law enforcement agencies with this program."

For 90 minutes, starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, WALB will show mugshots of criminals and ask viewers to call in tips.

"I certainly, whole heartedly support this," Albany Police Chief John Proctor. "And when I heard about it, I said, 'Yes, let's do it.' We believe in the importance."

It's an unprecedented crimefighting partnership between WALB and area law enforcement agencies. And its success hinges on public response.

"Everybody needs to be involved with it," said Lee County Sheriff Reggie Rachals. "That's what brings the community together, and helps solve crimes."

CrimeStoppers volunteers and law officers will work inside our newsroom to take your calls and deploy arrest teams.

"These are some of our top most wanted," Dougherty County Police Lt. Chad Kirkpatrick. "Some are violent. Some are not. But these people don't need to be out on the streets."

Not only will this clean up the streets, but callers who provide helpful information can get a reward of up to $1,000.
