One Love Tennis helps kids gain life skills, fundraiser to continue that mission

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – One Love Tennis, a non-profit organization in Wilmington, reaches out to "under-served youth" at the Wilmington Family YMCA. An upcoming event will continue the program's work.

The Bryan Brothers will be in town for One Love Tennis's first ever fundraising event. It's an all day event featuring Bob and Mike Bryan who are the winningest doubles team in the history of tennis. They also hold the number one spot in the world.

The event will happen November 24 in Trask Coliseum at UNCW. Tickets are being sold through the UNCW Box Office.

However, the game of tennis is not One Love's sole priority. Lenny Simpson, executive director of the program, says his mission is to help kids develop life skills that will help them become good citizens.

Simpson says he thinks this will also help with all the violence happening recently in the Port City.

"We give them an opportunity to succeed and they see that someone really cares about what they are doing, then you aren't going to have the kinds of problems we have in our community." Simpson said.

Proceeds from the Bryan Brothers Tennis Extravaganza will be shared among The Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame, the UNCW Seahawk Club and One Love Tennis.
