SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) – Officials with the Southport Police Department are searching for a man who they say robbed a cell phone store in broad daylight.

Police need your help tracking down the person and possibly hundreds of dollars of items.

According to a police report, a man walked in to the ATMC Wireless store in Southport on Monday.

He was seen speaking to store employees. Then, the suspect allegedly pocketed two Samsung Galaxy cell phones valued at more than $1,000 total.

The man took off in an unknown direction and it is currently unclear if he is still in the Brunswick County area.

Police Chief Jerry Dove says they typically see an up-tick in shoplifting crimes around the holidays.

"This is the time of the year for giving and perhaps they're feeling sorry for themselves and they want to buy a gift for a loved one," said Dove. "The only means that they have is stealing."

If you have any information on this case, you're asked to contact the Southport police department. To report information, call (910) 457-7917.
