WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – One person is lucky to escape serious injury after being robbed at gunpoint in Wilmington Tuesday night.

A 911 call about a person being shot came in around 9:45 Tuesday night. According to Lt. Blanton with the Wilmington Police Department, a 22-year-old victim was robbed at gunpoint near 12th and Greenfield Streets.

A man approached the victim from behind and pistol whipped him . The suspect demanded money, but the victim refused. When the suspect racked a round into his gun, the victim threw about $30 at the suspect.

As the suspect took the money and was running away, he turned around and fired one shot at the victim. Luckily for the victim, the shot hit the ground.

Witnesses say the suspect took off in a silver vehicle.

The accused robber is described as having a medium build and standing 5'9". Witnesses said he had dreadlocks and a tattoo on the left side of his neck. He was wearing a red flannel shirt and camouflage pants at the time.
