WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A member of the UNCW basketball team has been suspended indefinitely from all basketball related activities for violating team rules, according to a spokeswomen with the college.

Police records show C.J. Gettys, who is a redshirt freshman, was arrested at the end of October in connection to an assault inflicting serious injury during a party off campus in August.

According to a Wilmington Police Department report of the incident, officers were called to a house on College Acres Drive just after midnight in reference to a noise complaint.

When officers arrived, they found a victim who said he was assaulted by an unknown male who was at least 7' tall.

The victim told police the man told him to leave the party and then punched him in the nose.

Witnesses at the party said the suspect did not live at the house and ran away after the incident.

The initial police report was listed as a simple assault because the victim refused to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. He later drove himself to the hospital, where he discovered he had a broken nose as a result of the punch.

The victim had to have surgery as a result of the injury.

Gettys court case was continued last Tuesday until December 19.

UNCW will not release any additional information regarding the specific violation.
