WILMINGTON, NC (WECT)- With holiday supplies already covering the store shelves, volunteers in and around the port city are working to make Christmas a reality for needy kids around the world.

The goal of helping a large number of children can be reached as the donations are made simple.

If you want to get involved, all you do is fill a shoe box with toys, school supplies, hygiene items and notes of encouragement.

Operation Christmas Child, the world's largest Christmas project of its kind, is aiming to collect a new goal of 30,000 gift-filled shoe boxes during National Collection Week (Nov. 18–25).

At these local collection sites in the Wilmington area, anyone can drop off a gift-filled shoe box to send to a child.

Then using whatever means necessary—trucks, trains, boats, bikes and even elephants—the shoe box gifts will be delivered to children worldwide. For many children, the shoe box gift will be the first gift they have ever received.
