Developers of a proposed shopping and housing complex near Carolina Beach's boardwalk have one more chance to win support for the project.
Tuesday night the town's planning commission denied a permit request from the Arcadia group. The developers want to construct an 11-building complex that would include the existing Surfside Motor Lodge and Paradise Hotel.
Some of the commercial and residential buildings would be more than twice the height of most structures in Carolina Beach.
500 residents signed a petition against the project. Now the issue goes to the town council for consideration at a meeting next week.
