WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A Wilmington man was sentenced to life in prison in federal court Friday in connection to a fatal shooting during a drug deal in 2011.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Willis Sarvis was found guilty earlier this year of selling PCP and using a firearm during, and in retaliation, to the drug sale.

He was sentenced Friday to live imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release.

Officers with the Wilmington Police Department responded to the Hillcrest Housing Community in March 2011 after reports of a man being shot.

An investigation revealed Roshad Donta Jenkins was shot twice with an assault rifle. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Sarvis admitted he was selling two small bags of PCP to Jenkins and shot him when a fight began. According to the DOJ, Sarvis claimed the shooting was in self defense.
