(RNN) - Tuesday was Election Day, and New Jersey voters re-elected Republican Gov. Chris Christie to a second term.

Voters in Virginia elected Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe for governor, and New York City voters picked Democrat Bill de Blasio for mayor.

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford admitted to smoking crack cocaine and apologized. He said he would not resign over the allegations.

Shares of Twitter surged in its debut on the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday. Twitter priced its initial public offering at $26 a share. It jumped to $44.94 a share at closing on Thursday.
