We now know who was killed in the wreck on US 17 Wednesday night just over the Back River Bridge in South Carolina.
35-year-old Tonya Bergelt from Bluffton and 32-year-old Rebecca Pirkle of the Savannah area, died in a head-on collision.
We're told that both women were wearing their seatbelts when the crash happened, but the impact was too much to handle.
Traffic now flows as usual through Highway 17 into Jasper County, but for three hours Wednesday night, it was at a standstill following the deadly crash.
South Carolina State troopers say Bergelt was traveling northbound in a white Lincoln when she swerved into the southbound lane, colliding head-on with Pirkle's gray Sedan.
Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to cut both women from their cars.
Pirkle, who had recently moved to Garden City, died on the scene.
Bergelt was airlifted to Savannah's Memorial Health University Medical Center where she later died from her injuries.
This is just the latest in a long list of fatal crashes on this busy stretch of road.
Heavy construction still continues throughout the day and evening near the Back River Bridge.
Both victims bodies have been taken to MUSC in Charleston for autopsies.
