CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Sexual Assault Unit have charged a man for his involvement in two separate sexual assault cases near Johnson C. Smith University.

On Saturday, October 26, a victim told police that she was sexually assaulted on Campus Street by a man she knew.

Then on Thursday, October 31, a second victim told police that she was sexually assaulted on Campus Street.  That victim went to an area hospital for treatment.

After speaking with both victims and conducting their investigation, detectives identified Frederick Eugene Sullivan, 43, as a suspect in both cases.

Sullivan was located and arrested on November 1 and taken to police headquarters. There, he was interviewed by detectives who determined that both of the victims were acquaintances of his, and that these were not random acts of violence.

Upon completion of the interviews, Sullivan was charged with a total of eight counts of second degree sex offense, four counts of second degree rape, three counts of second degree kidnapping, communicating threats, assault on a female, and assault by strangulation.

He was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

If anyone has additional information concerning these cases, please call Crime Stoppers at (704)336-1600.  You may also visit the Crime Stopper's website at http://charlottecrimestoppers.com.
