CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) - Officials with New Hanover County Fire believe a fire that happened at a duplex in Carolina Beach Wednesday night was accidental.

The cause, however, is still unknown.

Firefighters arrived to the property on 218 Annie Drive around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. Crews worked together and were able to put out the flames by 2:30 Thursday morning.

Officials say a man was asleep when the fire sparked. Neighbors saw the fire and started banging on the door and yelling to wake him up.

The man was staying at the house with a group of renters, who had moved out of the home last week.

Several parts of the home were destroyed including the entire roof, the second level living room, the kitchen and the back porch.

The occupant was not injured.
