Family of man killed sues popular St. Patrick's Day pub crawl organizer

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

The family of a man hit and killed by an alleged drunk driver last March, is suing the company that organized a large St. Patrick's Day pub Crawl in Uptown Charlotte.

RockHouse Events, LLC hosted what some call "The World's Largest Pub Crawl" on March 16, 2013. Over 15,000 flooded over two dozen bars Uptown. Police say Jason Orbison, 29,  had too much to drink that night, got behind a wheel, and ran over Josh Stone, 31, near his Indian Trail home.

"I was distraught. And frankly a little embarrassed that this kind of thing could happen," said Joe Bochicchio, the attorney for the Stone family.

Bochicchio and attorney David Rudolf are suing RockHouse Events, LLC, arguing that the company acted irresponsibly in allowing people to come into Charlotte, get drunk, then leave.

"I think it's something the city needs to do something about and it needs to draw the attention of the right people," Bochicchio said.

WBTV asked City Councilman Michael Barnes about the event, and if city council could take any action.

"It's going to be hard for the city council to regulate all large events, when there are plenty of events that happen in the city that involve drinking that are legal," Barnes said.

WBTV reached out to RockHouse Events, LLC in Charlotte. Our call was not returned. The lawsuit mentions Roxbury nightclub. Management contacted WBTV and said they have a credit card receipt showing that Orbison only had one drink at the Roxbury.
