Citizens vote ‘YES' for new form of government

The town of Bladenboro will now operate in a mayor-council type of government. The town of Bladenboro will now operate in a mayor-council type of government.

BLADENBORO, NC (WECT) - The citizens of Bladenboro voted "YES" passing the referendum that asks for a "council-mayor" form of government.

A petition by mayoral candidate, Rufus Duckworth, asked for this item to be placed on the ballot.

Formerly, the Bladenboro government was a council-manager system, with a town council, mayor and a town manager responsible for the duties found in North Carolina General Statute 160A-148.

Since the mayor-council form is approved, council will vote whether or not to hire a town administrator; and the town manager position, currently held by Delane Jackson, could be eliminated.
