SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

The driver of a minivan slammed into a bridge pillar just after 10 on Tuesday morning after losing control of her vehicle.

Department of Public Safety Trooper Jeanne Dark said Minnie Hamilton, 29, was traveling on County Road 1113 in Smith County when her 1999 Dodge Caravan slid going around a curve. Hamilton overcorrected and drove into a creek, where she struck the bridge pillar.

Hamilton was transported to Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler where she was treated for minor injuries.

Dark says a combination of wet roads and speed led to the crash.

The Smith County Road and Bridge Department is at the scene evaluating the bridge for structural damage. The bridge is closed at this time.
