BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Citizens in Bladenboro will have the option of changing their form of government this election.

A referendum on the ballot proposes changing the current system from a council-manager form of government to a mayor-council form.

In the council-manager form, the Town Manager is hired by the town council and works for the town, the duties are set by the North Carolina General Statue 160A-148.

Under the mayor-council form, the council votes on whether or not to hire a Town Administrator.

A decade ago, Bladenboro switched from a mayor-council form, to a council manager form of government.

If the town of Bladenboro votes "yes" to the referendum, the town manager position, currently held by Delane Jackson, could be eliminated.
