New road could relieve congestion

The drive to Myrtle Beach could soon become less crowded.

State transportation officials are studying whether a 17-mile-long, four-lane road should be built from Chadbourn to Tabor City. It would connect U.S. 74 to Highway 9.

Chadbourn's town manager says the new highway would encourage new business, like convenience stores and motels. It would also help clear the roads for commuters and beach-goers.
