WILMINGTON, NC  (WECT) - Dozens gathered at the 1898 Memorial early Saturday morning for the Reverse the Curse Prayer March.  The march aimed to remember the 1898 Massacre and also promote nonviolence in the city.

During the 1898 race riots, hundreds of black residents were driven out of the city. Many were told to never come back, and dozens were killed during the riots.

During Saturday's march, participates retraced the steps taken during a march in November of 1898.

The event was the first of two events in the Port City on Saturday aimed at promoting nonviolence.

The second event, Praise in the Park, will feature Snoop Dog's mother as a speaker. That event starts at noon and runs until 4 p.m.

It will take place at the MLK Ball Center.

A deadly virus is threatening the crawfish industry in Southwest Louisiana. It's called white spot syndrome virus and it was first discovered in Thailand, but somehow it made its way to ponds in South Louisiana and specialists are struggling to find the funds to research a solution.  “The catch was increasing and increasing and then it dropped 70% and that's when you saw the dead crawfish floating in the water,” said a crawfish farmer of 34 years, Ian Garbarino.
