BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Brunswick County Sheriff's Deputies arrest fourteen in a heroin and hand gun round up Friday.
Drug investigators with the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office have been working undercover for the past six months trying to cripple the heroin trade in the county. The "community take back initiative" was created to fight the rising heroin use in Brunswick County. The main goal was to find the source of the heroin being trafficked.
On Friday starting at 6 a.m. the first wave of the initiative began. Deputies targeted the area between Holden Beach and Supply. The round up was successful in revealing that 90% of the drugs being sold and used in this area was heroin.
Charges included Possession With Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Distribute (PWIMSD) heroin, marijuana, and other controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia and stolen property. The stolen property ranged from guns to dirt bikes.
The following people have been arrested for their connection to drugs in Brunswick County: Darryl LaQwen McNeil, Eric Quinshawn Hewett, Catherine Marie Bell, Derek Shawon Johnson, Courtney Margaret Mittelstadt, Traci Lynn Anderson, Tyiah McKenzie Pence, Brett Allen Holden, Andrea Lynn Stephens, Jonathon Joel Velez, Jonathan Erick McLeod, Mary Ledonna Hays, Robert Keith Cooper, and Alex Alterick Hamilton.
Still wanted for their connection to heroin in Brunswick County are Nicholas Daniel Locklear, Christopher Damian Locklear, Lynda Michelle Midgette-Hewett, Danielle Wertman, and Robert Franklin Moore Sr.
Awaiting transfer from the North Carolina Department of Correction is Derrick Wesley Shepard.
