Picnic this weekend to celebrate those who open their homes to children

Adoption Celebration Picnic will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Hugh MacRae Park. Adoption Celebration Picnic will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Hugh MacRae Park.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - November is National Adoption Awareness Month and members of the Southeastern Adoption Consortium are hosting the group's annual Adoption Celebration Picnic this weekend.

The event will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Hugh MacRae Park.

Foster and adoptive families are welcome to attend.

The event is a way to thank those who open their homes and hearts to the children in our community. 

The following Agencies put the event together: The Bair Foundation, Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina, Methodist Homes for Children, Children's Home Society, Touchstone Residential Services, and the following County Departments of Social Services: Onslow, Bladen, Pender, Brunswick, and New Hanover County Department of Social Services. 

Door prizes will be given out throughout the picnic and there will be free food.

Adelaide Brooks, a DSS social worker, will perform music.
