PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Officials in Pender County could limit the smoking areas for county buildings.
County Manager Mickey Duvall is in the process of researching the idea of preventing people from smoking outside the front door of county buildings.
He says smoking so close to the building creates a fire safety concern, in addition to a health concern because of the second hand smoke.
According to Duvall, the new designated smoking areas would likely be 20-50 feet away from the building, depending on the specific space available.
Duvall is hoping to turn his findings over to commissioners in either December or January.
