BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A restaurant that has served home-cooked meals for more than a quarter century has closed its doors.
Employees at the Front Porch Restaurant on Broad St. in Elizabethtown served their last meals to customers Wednesday night.
Robin Summerlin, owner of Front Porch, said food prices and payroll made it difficult to stay open. He also said meat prices have really increased as well.
Summerlin said he had to tell all 30 of his employees that the restaurant was closing at the last minute; however, he is helping them find other jobs.
He adds the catering portion of the restaurant is also closing, and he is hoping to rent out the building.
Town residents say the loss of the Front Porch will hurt the Bladen County town. The restaurant started operating in 1986. Many of the town's civic functions have been held at the Front Porch for years, including monthly meetings of the Elizabethtown-White Lake Chamber of Commerce.
