On Tuesday, the City of Holyoke marked "Home Ownership Day" by announcing two new homes being built for low or moderate income families.
One is located at 1144 Hampden Street and the other at 294-296 Chestnut Street.
The homes are duplex style and the city provides the financing for them through funding from the HOME Investment Partnership Act and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The funding allows the homes to be sold for a lower market price to families who may not be able to afford the full asking amount.
"Here in Holyoke we have a high number of renters and we're hoping that by offering the homes for sale, we'll entice renters to buy homes and stay here in the City of Holyoke," said Alicia Zoeller, Deputy Administrator for Holyoke office of Community Development.
Those interested in the homes are asked to contact the Holyoke Office of Community Development.
