Former NHHS standout Allen commits to Arizona

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Former New Hanover High School standout basketball player Kadeem Allen has verbally committed to play for the Arizona Wildcats.

Allen led the New Hanover team to a state basketball championship in his senior year, finishing second to Rodney Purvis from Raleigh as the men's basketball player of the year for North Carolina that year.

Allen then signed to play with junior college powerhouse Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas this last academic year.  Allen averaged 17.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists in his freshman season.

Allen was reportedly getting interest from several schools, including Kansas State, Marquette, Nebraska, Seton Hall, Cincinnati, West Virginia, Indiana and Miami (Fla.).
