WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore Katrina Guillou scored two goals and added an assist to lead UNCW to a 3-1 victory over Delaware in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer action Sunday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
The Seahawks finished the regular season with a 9-9 overall mark and a 4-4 league record as it secured the No. 5 seed for the upcoming CAA Women's Soccer
Championship. UNCW will open the six-team tournament Nov. 3 with a first-round contest at No. 4 seed Hofstra. The Blue Hens, meanwhile, moved to 9-7-2 and 3-3-2. Delaware will be the No. 6 seed for the championship and will travel to No. 3 seed Northeastern for its first-round contest, also on Nov. 3.
Guillou staked the Seahawks to a 1-0 lead at the 4:55 mark when she converted junior Stephanie Bronson's feed from six yards out to give UNCW the early advantage.
Sophomore Maddie McCormick doubled the Seahawks advantage to 2-0 in the 14th minute, putting home a pass from Guillou for her sixth goal of the season. Sophomore Morgan Leyble was credited with an assist on the play.
Delaware cut the UNCW advantage in half, 2-1, at the 48:06 mark as senior Dianna Marinaro placed a free kick into the upper left-hand corner of the net from just outside the box for her second goal of the campaign.
Guillou would restore the Seahawks' two-goal cushion and close out the scoring in the 65th minute, converting a penalty kick opportunity for her team-leading 10th goal of the season.
Delaware held a 12-10 shot advantage in the contest, out-shooting the Seahawks, 5-2, in the second half after UNCW posted an 8-7 edge in shots during the opening frame. The Blue Hens also attempted three corner kicks in the second half to hold a 3-2 margin in that category for the game.
Freshman Carolyn Huddy made four saves in goal for the Seahawks.
