UNCW Press Release
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Individual leader Stephanie Meadow fired a hole-in-one and Alabama maintained its lead during the second round of the 2013 Landfall Tradition Saturday on the Country Club of Landfall's Pete Dye Course.
Playing under sunny skies and a cool breeze along the Intracoastal Waterway, the 10th ranked Crimson Tide (285-290=575) combined for a 2-over total of 290 on Saturday and carries an eight-stroke lead into Sunday's final round of the 12th annual event.
No. 4 Duke (295-288=583) remained in second place, despite posting the low team round Saturday with an even-par 288. No. 13 Clemson (307-391=598) stands third, while No. 14 South Carolina (300-299=599) and No. 8 Arizona (304-302=606) round out the top five.
Highlighted by an ace on the par 3 13th, Meadows (70-71=141) posted a 1-under 71 during the second round to build a two-shot lead over Duke's Yu Liu (74-69=143) and Clemson's Ashlan Rasmey (74-69=143). South Carolina's Katelyn Dambaugh (71-73=144) and Alabama's Emma Talley (71-73=144) are three shots back in a tie for fourth.
For the host Seahawks, senior Lori Beth Adams (75-74=148) carded a two-over 74 to grab a share of 13th place. UNCW (313-315=628) is tied with No. 15 NC State (323-305=628) for 15th place after 36 holes.
"I thought we looked really good heading into the turn today," said UNCW Head Coach Cindy Ho. "Lori Beth started strong while Laverry (Kumar) and Mallory (Warrick) had also played well on the back nine, but I knew that the front nine of the course was playing tougher and that we would need to finish strong in order to move up the leaderboard and we were unable to do so."
"Even with the tough finish today we are still only a few shots back of both Purdue and Iowa State. We're going to work real hard tomorrow and try to find a way to post a good score and see if we can move up a few spots during the final round."
Final round action at the Landfall Tradition begins with a shotgun start slated for 8:45 a.m.
