WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Over 300 people are invited to the City of Wilmington's first gang forum November 4.
According to Wilmington's City Manager Sterling Cheatham, the city wants stakeholders in the community to come together to address the city's gang problem.
"This is not a neighborhood-based meeting. This is not a city council meeting," explained Cheatham. "This is a meeting to discuss an issue that's a national issue that is affecting us here locally."
Cheatham said he is urging local religious leaders, business owners, and law enforcement officials to come out and discuss the problem.
"We want as many people involved and part of the solution as possible," the city manager explained.
Cheatham said the goal of the forums is to develop short and long-term solutions to the city's gang problem.
The first forum will be held on November 4 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the city council chambers in downtown Wilmington.
