NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – New Hanover County Sheriff's Deputy Rudolph Howell has resigned after he was charged with DWI early Friday morning.
Howell was stopped at a checkpoint being conducted by the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office on Highway 17. Officers at the checkpoint charged him with DWI.
Authorities say Howell was not on duty at the time.
Howell resigned before an internal investigation could begin on the incident. He served nine years with the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office.
