WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The 6th annual PPD Beach2Battleship Triathlon starts Saturday, Oct. 26 and a lot of traffic tie-ups are expected throughout the weekend.
The Wilmington Police Department is working with event organizers to ensure participants will be safe and the traffic tie-ups are minimized.
According to a news release, traffic on the Wrightsville Beach Draw Bridge will increase significantly between 5:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m.
Also, downtown, Water Street from Grace Street to Dock Street, the site of the finish line, will be closed from noon Friday, Oct. 25 until 2 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 27.
Drivers are asked to avoid the Isabel Holmes from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. if possible. Officials encourage drivers to take the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge if you are heading in or out of town.
The public is invited to cheer on the athletes on race day.
