ASU D-line faces tough test in Clark Atlanta run game

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany State head coach Mike White admits it's always nicer practicing after a win rather than a loss.

The Golden Rams would like to make it two nice weeks in a row.

ASU travels to take on Clark Atlanta for the Panthers' homecoming game Saturday.

The Rams have dominated this series, winning 17 of 18 all-time matchups, including the last 10.

In order to make it 11 straight, the Rams' defensive line will need to play big, facing the conference's best rushing attack.

The Panthers average 283 yards a game on the ground, thanks to their wing-T offense.

White says it's going to come down who wins the battle of the trenches.

"It's a man's game this weekend up front," says White. "We have to play well, and got to get out in front of this team too. "It's important that our offense starts off well like it did last week."

The Golden Rams jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead over Morehouse last week en route to a 42-20 Homecoming win.

White and offensive coordinator Steve Smith were both pleased with the team's urgency and energy.

They hope to see that again this weekend in Atlanta, not to get the Homecoming crowd behind them, but to quiet them.

"We got off to the start that we needed, not giving any team any kind of momentum on our Homecoming," he says. "We're not trying to give this team any momentum on their homecoming. So I think that's important to build that momentum, and I think we played better. I think when you're 2-4, you need those types of things."

The Rams kick off against the Panthers in a key conference matchup Saturday at 2 p.m.
