KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) – We uncovered how much the town of Kure Beach has been billed by attorneys in its ongoing legal battle with a former contractor.
According to documents we've obtained, to date, the town has racked up more than $240,000 in legal fees.
The town parted ways with a contractor, Integrity Builders, for its Ocean Front Park project.
In March of 2012, that contractor sued the town, claiming Mayor Dean Lambeth got in the way of the park's progress.
To defend the town, its leaders hired an outside law firm, Block, Crouch, Keeter, Behm & Sayed.
The lawyers charge $275 an hour.
Some of the documents we were given contain redacted material.
That's because Lambeth said the documents reveal information that would hurt the town's case in court.
The lawsuit was filed in March of 2012. It's ongoing, so it's likely the town could owe a lot more money in legal fees.
