WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A third suspect has been arrested in connection to a recent shooting, according to a spokesperson for the Wilmington Police Department.
US Marshals and Wilmington Police arrested 18-year-old Wakeel Stewart as the third suspect in an attempted murder case. Stewart was taken into custody around 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon at his home in the 300 block of Pine Valley Dr.
Daiquan Evander Jacobs, 17, of Castle Hayne, and 24-year-old Kolton James Thompson of Wilmington have both been charged with attempted first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and conspiracy.
On Oct. 17, the alleged victim involved reported that the suspects shot at him from a moving vehicle while he was riding his bike in a residential area behind the Creekwood community. The victim wasn't struck by any bullets.
Thompson was in court Tuesday after being arrested Monday. According to an assistant district attorney, Thompson is a danger to society, and his arrest stems from a gang-related shooting, which is just the most recent in a string this year.
In court, Thompson said he was innocent and was no longer in a gang, and even thinks he was in the hospital on the day of the shooting.
Thompson's bond has increased from $500,000 to $700,000.
Warrants released Tuesday show that the attempted shooting of the victim on the bicycle was premeditated and deliberate.
Jacobs made his first court appearance Monday, and remains in jail on a $1 million bond.
Law enforcement agents are searching for a third suspect in connection to the case.
