WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – CAA head coaches, media relations directors and sports media predict both the men and women Seahawks basketball teams to finish eighth in the upcoming 2013-14 race.
"I don't put a lot of stock in the preseason polls," said Coach Buzz Peterson. "We use it as motivation for our guys. It's definitely chalkboard material."
The men open their fourth season under Peterson Friday, Nov. 8 against Iowa.
Results of the poll were announced during Tuesday's CAA Basketball Media Day in Maryland.
For the ladies – James Madison was selected to win the 2014 CAA Women's Basketball title. They have three returning starters from last year's 25-11 team.
Junior Kelva Atkins, however, was chosen for the 2013-14 CAA Women's Basketball Preseason All-Conference Team.
Towson was predicted to take home the 2014 CAA Men's Basketball title, with four returning starters from last year's 18-13 team.
This is the first time UNCW has been chosen to finish eighth since the poll began in 2001-02, according to UNCW Athletics.
